OVERVIEW
Nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay, Galveston Island State Park offers a rare blend of coastal beauty and outdoor adventure just minutes from the heart of Galveston, Texas. Spanning over 2,000 acres, the park is a favorite destination for RV travelers looking for a mix of beachside relaxation, bayou exploration, and family-friendly recreation.
With its sweeping views of the Gulf, miles of hiking and paddling trails, and well-equipped campgrounds, the park provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the Texas coast in comfort. Whether you prefer fishing at sunrise, birdwatching along the marshes, or gathering with family at a waterfront campsite, Galveston Island State Park has something for everyone.
THE CAMPGROUND
Galveston Island State Park has been thoughtfully restored and modernized, offering RV campers amenities that balance comfort with the park’s natural charm.
RV visitors can choose between beachside sites—perfect for those who want to step out of their rig and onto the sand—or bayside sites, which offer more shade, calm waters, and excellent fishing access. Each RV site includes water and electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby restrooms with showers. Pull-through and back-in options are available, making it easy to accommodate RVs of various sizes.
The campground retains its coastal character while providing the essentials for a relaxed stay. Wide-open skies give campers miles of spectacular sunsets, while the gentle surf creates a soothing backdrop to evenings around the fire.
The park is especially well-suited for families. Kids can enjoy sandy beaches, nature walks, and ranger-led programs, while parents can take advantage of fishing piers, paddling trails, and bird blinds. Four-legged family members are welcome, too, with plenty of open space to explore.

The park offers over 4 miles of trails, ranging from short nature loops to longer routes with elevated boardwalks and observation towers, perfect for spotting herons, pelicans, and even the occasional dolphin.
Wildlife & Birding
Located along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, the park is a hotspot for birdwatchers. More than 300 bird species can be spotted throughout the year.
Ranger Programs & Family Fun
Families can enjoy interpretive programs led by rangers, from stargazing nights to hands-on wildlife talks. Picnic pavilions and group areas are also available for larger gatherings.
SPECIAL EXPERIENCES
While there’s no fine-dining restaurant inside the park, the experience of cooking your own fresh catch by the RV, enjoying a campfire meal under the stars, or sipping morning coffee with a Gulf breeze is its own luxury.
For those who prefer dining out, downtown Galveston—with its seafood restaurants, coffee shops, and historic Strand District—is just a short drive away. Many campers enjoy spending the day at the park, then heading into town for dinner before returning to the quiet comfort of their RV site.
